Fake, scam in the name of charity

Omaze is duping participants worldwide by promising unbiased selection of winner, while winners are mainly based out of the US - most likely fake profiles created by the firm.

I fully agree with you. I am getting regularly the list of winners and from 4-5 lists that I received so far, I see that 99% are from the US.

There is always 1-2 winner from Canada ( what a coincidence, always someone from Canada and always just 1-2) and one from the UK.

I agree with other opinion that the winner profiles from the US are fake or they only draw a winner from the pool of US applicants and there is no chance of winning for people from other countries ( non English speaking) like me. I will never participate anymore.

@Reeya

Thanks. I feel ripped off too.

As you said all their winners are mostly similar and I would like to add that they are only from US with very rare exceptions. I would expect more winners from Europe, China and/or South Asia given the population size. What are the odds. They don't explicitly mention that only US participants would win, in fact they say things more like anybody could win.

Bunch of thieves! I would request all celebrities to steer clear from these Omaze thugs and the feds should investigate them.

Hi, scroll to the bottom of the donation amounts. It’s in faint print under the $5000 level. I used it today.

I entered for over a year before i ever won anything, but i did win a pair of the limited edition fresh prince air jordans. They emailed me to confirm my information (name and mailing address) and i got them about 3 weeks later. I was thrilled. The issue with them being a "scam" because "no one ever wins" is based on people personally not winning. But its like the lottery, millions enter, only a few will win. No one ever calls that a scam. But ive never won big on a lottery. And i donated $10 to the cause to win these.

Thank you for sharing this :) How long did they give you to reply to the email? My concern is that they don't ask for a phone number and what if the email goes to spam or you don't respond in time? Can you post a screenshot of the email, with your info masked of course?

After research I found that only 15% of the money raised by Omaze actually gets to the charity involved. Considering Charities also take “administration fees” it’s probably very safe to say very little if any money actually goes towards the cause. Appears to be mostly...

I researxhed them thoroughly. Dubious practices to say the least.

They feed on people's hopes to get something the could not otherwise afford. Basically a lottery without accountability.

Great

A Chemistry Professor at Hillsdale College won the Ireland game of thrones trip, and he is a real person. Also, when you donate the money goes to the specific charity listed for prize and that is the charity you list for your tax exemption. Sounds like people may be confused. However, being an international organization, your odds are probably better to win the po we all than an Omaze prize. The difference is the ability to claim on your taxes.

Really?

In their latest oddity, Omaze claimed to be giving away a Lamborghini that was blessed by the Pope. Problem is that it happened in Vatican City, and was auctioned by Sotheby's in England. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/15/pope-francis-given-lamborghini-sports-car-plans-auction-charity/ So how would this car have even wound up in the United States (especially since Lamborghinis can't be imported here), and how would Omaze haven gotten their hands on it? On, that's right: Omaze has a prize rule that says that there may be "import/export restrictions" on their prizes, and they'll give away cash instead. Curiouser and Curiouser. Once again, it seems that Omaze doesn't even possess the "prize" they're claiming to give away.

Lamborghini's are imported here to the USA and sold at dealerships nationwide. Pope could easily go to the factory, sign a car, and Lamborghini allocates that VIN to the US. Lots of European manufacturers also offer European delivery programs, where you can drive your car in Europe before it gets exported to the USA.

Omaze summarized

Omaze is a US Federal and California state registered "for profit" company. It is not a registered as a charity. Yet they claim donations to them are charitable deductions and claim you can deduct your donations. . ... If people make large donations and deduct them, they can be prosecuted for IRS fraud later.

Your donation goes to the charity listed, i.e. World Vision was the charity supporting the game of thrones prize and is tax deductible.

Omaze simply collects the money for them and charges World Vision a fee for doing so. Check with your CPA with any questions.

#1729532
@James H

If You read more, you'll note that part of your donation goes to your charity. 10% of your donation actually, as per Omaze's Contest terms and conditions. The rest is pocketed or spent on the prize.

draws are not random they chose who will win. Theres a clause that if they think the pulled winner (aftwr background check in your life) could harm the star or omaze reputation they move to a another draw.

So they can repeat this process until they hve the person. I believe winners are related in some way to big donors
