i received a belated email by support, after contacting the Omaze staff via a DM on instagram and re-sending my initial email.

People are very bad at math. For example, lets say there are only 5000 people who donated 10 USD only for a Lambo, chances of winning are :

Answer:

For 5000 to 1 odds for winning;

Probability of:

Winning = (0.9998) or 99.98%

Losing = (0.0002) or 0.02%

"Odds for" winning: 5000:1

"Odds against" winning: 1:5000

And in reality there are much more than 5000 people with multiple enteis each.

That makes the chance of winning less that 99.99999%.

I am also sceptical, but it is not a scam in my opinion, but is a clever way to make money instead.

I think Omaze only gives away some percentage from the donations to the actually causes and keeps a some amount for themselves to cover "operational costs" and make some money.

Also until very recently the alternate "free method of entry" was actually deep burred after the Terms and Services page, making 99% of people pay to be eligible for an entry. That's why they recently moved the Free method of entry to a move visible location Definitely shady, I suspect they might have gotten a warning about getting sued, because it is illegal to make a giveaway where a purchase is necessary.

They claim to use random·org's api to pick a winning entry, but participants do not see their entries, nor is the drawing process public.

"The grand prize winner is selected using a computer-generated selection method (powered by random.org, in our case) to ensure that each drawing is conducted completely at random. Every entry into a campaign gets assigned a number. (For example, if you have 100 entries, you could have entries 1–100, while another person could have entries 251–350.) We then tell random.org’s API to select a number between 1 and however many total entries there are in a given campaign, and it picks a number at random.

Every single entry has an equal chance of being selected. Once this is completed, the API reports back to our system to find the corresponding entry to the number drawn. At no time does any member of Omaze see the winning number to ensure the sweepstakes cannot be tampered with. That way, we don’t know any information about the winner until they’re selected.

This is from their support team ↑

So John pays 10$ for 100 entries and gets tickets (1 - 100), Jack gets 1000 entries (tickets 101 - ****) for 100$, and Mike just enters for free (1 entry - ticket number 1002).

Theoretically all have a chance of scoring if random's API picks any number between 0 and 1002, but if you are a user who donated yo don't see your entries in te Web Interface, you only get a recipiet with a unique number and that is it.

my problem is that only Omaze know the ticket numbers, so there is *zero transparency* and you have a solid foundation to project your skeptical beliefs upon this fact about the lack of real transparency in the picking process.

However i still believe they are NOT a scam.

They claim 85% of their winners donated $USD 100 or less.

For example a previous Lambo winner - he exists i checked him and found local news reportage from a Czech TV station out picture of Vlada N lambo winner!

Due to the fact that support have not responded to my emails for more than 3 months i have rated them as LOW. k10xbai

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: answer your emails please.

Omaze Pros: Fantasy of winning and the reality of helping.

Omaze Cons: Lack of transparency when using randomorgs api, Patricipants do not see their entries, Lack of email response, Website displayed a message to recreate my account lmao, 99 percent odds for losing.

draws are not random they chose who will win. Theres a clause that if they think the pulled winner (aftwr background check in your life) could harm the star or omaze reputation they move to a another draw.

So they can repeat this process until they hve the person. I believe winners are related in some way to big donors

I'm 100% sure that they have done this. I donated on a car and the draw was early January 2021.

I got a notification from Omaze about the winner a few days after the draw. When I opened my email account the message WAS DELETED by Omaze. I wrote to them and they answered that they needed more time to verify the winner.

Last week, over a month later, they announced a winner. The draw was obviously rigged.

*** If you buy one ticket and there are 5000 entries, your chances of winning ANYTHING are one in 5000. You don't have to be a math wiz to figure that out.

That doesn't make it a scam, nor does your unhappiness with them responding to your emails. When we get to the center of the universe, you won't be there waiting for us.

I’ve “donated” £10 For teenage cancer trust in England ! The prize is a gorgeous house in a lovely area! As long as that charity received some money for research then I’m ok with it, and another plus is I may be moving pretty soon

Shady? I'm glad they kept the "free entries" mention at the bottom.

It's not "shady" to put it in small print and at the bottom. The good people in the world DONATE so as to help others and possibly win a prize for themselves, while the freeloaders of the world want everything for free. Calling it shady is ridiculous.

As well, if you read the FAQs, they explain that out of every dollar donated 30 cents goes to the charity, 30 cents goes to the Harvard dudes who created the platform, and 70 cents goes towards buying the prize. When tons of freeloaders enter without donating, then everything is thrown off.

you got your "cents to a dollar" wrong buddy. 30+30+70 is NOT ONE Dollar!

Irrelevant. They are scamming generous people.

This post written by Omaze is BS. Give directly to the cause of your choice.

You don’t need Omaze and most of the money goes directly to your choice. No third party needed to suck money from people.
